Reaching my network


When I became an independent consultant, there were many avenues that are available to me to get my thoughts out. From the start, I decided to take a subtle word-of-mouth approach, rather than more aggressive marketing techniques. After all, it is my strong expertise, broad network and deep passion are what prompted me to leave a successful corporate path, and pursue my dreams.

Coincidentally, LinkedIn had opened up its publishing platform to all users, and I decided to take advantage of it. Over the past few months, I have written 20 or so blogs, on topics that are near and dear to me. From medical imaging to leadership to mentorship. For a while, I kept writing, although it wasn't clear if I was reaching my audience.

It all came to focus for me in a recent conference, where nearly everyone I met immediately commented on having seen, read, and even enjoying my writing. I was frankly very surprised, but it was extremely gratifying. Despite not getting a lot of "likes", it seems my blogs are not only reaching my direct network of over 2000 connections, but also my 2nd and 3rd level connections. This was a personal confirmation of the power of social media - especially when you pick the right platform - in my case, LinkedIn!

I intend to continue using this platform to talk about the things that matter to me. I will be focusing on a few key topics, and get more deeply into them over time. If you have an opinion, feedback or even criticism, I would love to hear from you.
